Multicultural: The Most Popular Event at TYWLS

Multicultural is the busiest event hosted at TYWLS around the end of May. Teachers and students pitch in to make every Multicultural day spectacular. Multicultural usually consists of dances, food, and so much more. It is hosted to show pride in every culture and to celebrate how diverse the TYWLS community is.
The preparation for Multicultural starts at the beginning of the year. Yasmeen, a student who had performed in Multicultural, says, “depending on the difficulty of preparation, a dance can take up to five months.” Emily, a dance teacher at TYWLS, remarks, “I start preparing the students from intensives up until multicultural. In fact, I take two days before multicultural off just to practice with my students.” As one can see, the commitment that is put into this special day is beyond strenuous.
Students feel Multicultural is a great way to engage and interact with friends. It is a day where students can show their unique colors while having fun doing it. Abanti, an eleventh grader sh ares her opinion on multicultural and states, “It’s very inclusive and it encourages people to celebrate and embrace their own cultures and identities. It’s a nice way to bring everyone together.”
TYWLS students also Multicultural impresses the audience every year. Almost 200 tickets are sold per show for Multicultural.
Multicultural has brought a huge impact on students at TYWLS because it is an opportunity for students to show who they really are and their identities. TYWLS has made a clever decision to devote a day just to show off different backgrounds and ethnicities.
