TYWLS students frequently ask themselves, “What is the purpose of all these TYWLS policies?” Here is an inside scoop of these rules and why they are in place.
TYWLS has created a new lunch rule that permits the freshmen and sophomores from going out for lunch. The assistant principal, Michael Cohen, expressed, “We didn’t want to say no to everybody, so the compromise was to allow the eleventh and twelfth graders out for lunch.”
Many people felt that it was unfair. A freshman, Mayra Veintimilla, revealed that the hardest TYWLS policy is not being able to go out during lunch. Mayra Veintimilla added on by saying, “ Eleventh and twelfth graders get to go out and buy food.”
Assistant principal, Michael Cohen, had a response to that. “The reason we have it now that eleventh and twelfth graders are only going out for lunch if they meet certain criteria. Such as academic standing, attendance, good behavior, and uniform policy. It's primarily a safety issue.” Michael Cohen explains that TYWLS merely wants their younger students to stay safe.

Some TYWLS students say that the easiest policy to accept is the uniform policy. They agree that it is an effortless and welcomed rule. A senior, Marwa Hassan, stated, “I feel like it just made the experience a lot easier because I would just wake up and wear the same thing everyday. To be honest I appreciate the uniform.” Marwa Hassan conveyed that she is grateful to have a rule that prevents her from choosing a new outfit everyday, like average teens feel the need to do.
However, a junior, Abanti Ahmed, shared the difficulties of having TYWLS uniform. She revealed, “I bought the grey pants once intending to use them, but I bought the wrong size because I didn't understand the size chart. Having to order them online is a hassle because it takes a very long time to ship, and you can't wait to wear the uniform here.” Some TYWLS students feel that the size chart should be thoroughly explained if we are expected to wear the TYWLS uniform.
Others have also complained about the TYWLS uniform expenses. A sophomore, Meriam Ikhibi, suggested that if the school requires everyone to wear a uniform then the price should be lower. She disclosed, “Why should a pair of plain grey pants cost almost fifty dollars? I mean I get it, its to create a sense of school pride or whatever but the prices are ridiculous.”
Despite the various opinions from TYWLS students, these policies are expected to remain the same.
